Avoir in a text – Practice the present indicative tense

Note

You should be able to identify nouns and names. This will help you pick the right conjugation.

It sounds difficult in theory, but it’s easier in practice.

Let’s look at an example from the text:

  • Mon frère: il

Thus, we can think of the brother as il.

However, sometimes we need to refer to nouns as “pronouns” also.

For instance:

  • Il est flambant neuf: It’s brand new.

We have already referred to the boat as le bateau, that is, a noun in the masculine form.

Thus, we can replace the name with il.
